APDIP shutting down

United Nations Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme shutting down

With just a little over two months to go, I've now started the cycle on my side to start time lines for shutting down services, and also final reports.

I guess the word should be out, that UNDP is not renewing APDIP and that it will cease to exist from next year. In keeping with FOSS however, all of APDIP's  materials are either under CC buy attribution (or will be), on Wikibooks, or mirrored on other sites. If you didn't know about this resource already, you can start downloading local copies of the elibrary. There is a ton of stuff there for policy makers on ICT4D.

IOSN will continue

IOSN however will not be affected. It's work for FOSS will continue in the form of the regional centers of excellence. They will continue to operate with different sources of funding in support of FOSS in the region. So expect to continue to see training programs, exchange grants etc.

Inigo

I've enjoyed the independence of working on Inigo, and will continue to make it viable for full time work from next year. One thing I've also learned is that it's definitely worth it for an IT SME to invest in co-locating their own server. This independence provides you with agility in providing Internet service resources.
