Battered person syndrome

In lay terms, this is a reference to any person who, because of constant and severe domestic violence usually involving physical abuse by a partner, becomes depressed and unable to take any independent action that would allow him or her to escape the abuse. The condition explains why abused people often do not seek assistance from others, fight their abuser, or leave the abusive situation. Sufferers have low self-esteem, and often believe that the abuse is their fault. Such persons usually refuse to press criminal charges against their abuser, and refuse all offers of help, often becoming aggressive or abusive to others who attempt to offer assistance. Often sufferers will even seek out their very abuser for comfort shortly after an incident of abuse.

Edit: This has nothing to do with my personal life. :) Just that I'm seeing that this syndrome or similar symptoms can actually occur in situations other than domestic violence where there is a position of power.

Keep going

"Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever." - Lance Armstrong

I crashed out last Friday, not enough sleep. Need to make sure I keep to schedule of at least 7hrs sleep, not that easy to do when you're stressed out.

People say something like http://www.exoweb.net/jobs.en.html can't be done here in Malaysia. Well, we're going to make it happen.

Open Source On The Air

Was interviewed for Open Source on The Air. It's an online podcast from FOSS advocate James Purser from Australia who along with his wife run the LocalFOSS site that tries to highlight all the great FOSS efforts done around the region.

You can listen to the interview from the link below, I was interviewed on the state of OSS adoption in government recently, especially with regards to OpenOffice.org.

Sauteed Beef Cubes

Filed Under:

Another simple recipe.

Chuck in a small bowl:

  • Beef cubes
  • Chopped onions and spring onion
  • A few chopped cloves of garlic
  • Japanese or light soya sauce
  • A table spoon or two of sesame oil (add seeds if you have em)
  • A table spoon of sugar
  • Chilli and pepper to taste

Mix them all around and leave to marinate for an hour or so (best to leave overnight in the fridge).

Fry them in a pan with some oil in high heat. Don't over cook, inside of meat should be slightly rare (it will continue to cook while it's cooling down). Should be tender and juicy, not hard and dry.

Serve over a bed of lettuce, with some rice and miso soup.

Ok I'm hungry going to cook it now. :)
